Friday at Lefty's ends up with 1000 Steps to Word Domination: "In 2003 Rob Osborne attained instant success, recognition, and inner pace and harmony after winning the first Isotope Award for Excellence for his minicomic featuring his first few baby steps to world domination. Hoping to capitalize on his opportunity, he turned to Larry Young and AiT/Planet Lar to become his footsoldiers in his march to world domination. In August of 2004, the comics community all bowed before the comic genius of Rob Osborne as we got a sneak peek into his life trying to break into comics first and next the world. Mission Accomplished!"

Chris Brown takes a look today at Demo as AiT Appreciation Week continues: "...my favorite AiT/Planet Lar book... All killer, no filler... The series would later find itself nominated for two Eisners, and an eventual trade paperback... but if you can pick up the singles 'floppies' for all the extra material, and the always fun 'playlist' that both Wood and Cloonan would list songs that helped inspire them for that particular issue."

Chris Kirby gives me a shout-out in his SD con report: "Special thanks to Larry Young who always seems to give me a needed kick in the keister to get motivated again just when I need it!" Me and R. Lee Ermey, dogface! YOU GOT THE Q's? WELL, I GOT THE A's!

heh heh

Hugo-nominated Doctor Who writer Paul Cornell knows good comics when he reads them: "Smoke & Guns is extremely good work, punchy, funny, and the stuff of movie adaptations." Best of luck at WorldCon, Paul. "Father's Day" certainly deserves the rocket.

...and look what Lefty Brown has for you today as part of his ongoing AiT Appreciation Week: an advance review of Joe and Charlie's Rock Bottom. "I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of the medical aspect of the story, in which Dare's doctor tries to treat this new medical discovery while finding himself famous in the process. Come to think of it, all the significant characters in the story each face important decisions that define their ethics and humanity. Rock Bottom is a strange chestnut. On the face of it, it fulfills AiT/Planet Lar's mission to 'make comics better' and also succeeds in a high-concept story. However, Rock Bottom is carried along by a current of human drama."

AiT Appreciation Week continues over at Lefty Brown's place. Today, he takes a gander at Full Moon Fever: "...come to think of it, why didn't the fine folks at AiT/Planet Lar just name the damn book Werewolves on the Moon? Putting werewolves on a moonbase, interjecting a little Alien sci-fi mystery/horror is a recipe for a kick-ass read that I've enjoyed several times since picking up the book last year. This book is enjoyable from start to finish. I liked how the tension builds as crew members start dissapearing until the action packed race to escape certain death 250,000 miles from the Earth in the cold vacuum of space. I'm hoping that someday writer Joe Casey and artist Damian Couceiro will return to this thrill-ride of a concept."

Lefty Brown is doing AiT/Planet Lar Appreciation Week, which warms my heart: "Welcome to AiT/Planet Lar Appreciation Week. The 'HBO of Comics' has a mission to bring 'high-quality entertainment to the masses through the creation of original projects or producing works deserving of wider recognition.' And over the years it's been the place where the best and the brightest in the comics industry have honed their skills and mastered their art..."

Steven Johnson, comics fan and Adobe Systems techno-mage, has cut out and assembled the pirate story Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons produced within their classic Watchmen so as to make it a separate narrative.

I'm a big fan of Watchmen (who isn't?), but Steven's work here made me like it even more.

JK Parkin over at Blogarama tips the folks off to the Seven Sons name-change.
