Star Trek: Voyager episode writer and all-around great guy sf author James Swallow says in his author's notes for Judge Dredd: Eclipse that "Other lunar science fiction that exerted an tidal effect on me includes; Robert Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Allen Steele's The Tranquility Alternative, John M. Ford's Growing Up Weightless and the comicbook series Astronauts in Trouble; the TV shows Space: 1999, UFO, Cowboy Bebop, Star Cops; the movies Moontrap, Apollo 13 and Destination Moon." Pretty good company for Larry to be in.

Let me tell you about my mother... or at least about comics.

Those Sky Ape fans who've been clamoring for a sneak peek at the new book need look no further than IGN, who has a nine page preview of King of Girls.

Partake and be overjoyed with monkey love.

Markus at Hurting (for good) Comics reviews the Demo collection, and joins the legions of folks who think Becky Cloonan's art is awesome:

"Cloonan's art is awesome beyond words. Framing, pacing, expression etc. are top notch as expected, but what really made me gasp was the incredible range of styles in this book. If the story is about the slacker's pledge and the three signatories decisions how to deal with it now that they're 23, she goes for a cartoony Scott Pilgrim style with clear strong lines. If the story is about a funeral and family dynamics behind it, she goes for slightly frayed lines and lots of blacks. The soldier's story (see above) is illustrated in abstract forms and stark contrasts. The story of a teenager going off her meds and almost insane as a result is illustrated in thin, frayed and hazy lines that vividly show her world going apart. Awesome, awesome, awesome."

That's right... say it three times baby!

Another Monday, another batch of cool comics stuff to distract you while at work!

We'll start off the day with a visit to The Great Curve, where they pit Larry Young vs. Joe Quesada in a podcast duel to the death!

"Take a listen at both; I'm sure the contrast will be entertaining, to say the least."

Ok, so maybe I'm embellishing just a little. Sorry to disappoint some of the bloggers out there. =)

Remember way back in March of last year, when ol' Lar linked to some stuff Guy LeCharles Gonzalez wrote about the last Demo? Where Larry just thought it was funny some dude would cap on Brian's lyrics when Guy has his own poetry up, and Guy freaked out? I know for a fact Larry's tried to smooth everything over with Guy, but Senor Buzzscope still has something stuck in his craw which you can see everytime he writes something about AiT. C'est la vie. Like Larry says, "Sometimes people just don't understand each other."

But dude has to go out of his way to see a black mark about this:

Charlie Adlard 3 GN Pack, $38.85 "Is this the equivalent of running a sale to clear out inventory?" I can see where maybe Guy doesn't go through Previews like the rest of us serious people, so he probably didn't see our "Charlie Adlard: Master Illustrator" ad, but still. Three $12.95 books for $38.85 isn't much of a sale now, is it? We even threw in the shrinkwrap for free.

Jason Richards of RIOT Comics + Culture fame gives up the love for AiT favorite Heat Vision & Jack.

Knowledge is power... for real!

In case you didn't know already, the kids dig on the Demo collection:

"Throughout the entire series, each tale is beautifully illustrated by Becky Cloonan, who can't get enough praise for her work here. Why? Twelve different stories, twelve different styles of art. From the comical style used in "Midnight to Six" to the more delicate, airy work in "Emmy," her work never fails to impress and please."

Lastly, big thanks to Brain Domingos for his recent kind words about the AiT Daily Update:

"I was going to email you about a couple things: Firstly, Josh - he's doing a great job as website-update-guy. I've enjoyed his stuff these last couple weeks. Then, the new preview pages - they all look fantastic. I'm glad to see some new blood in the company. You know I love everything you guys have done for the last half decade, but New Blood and New Stuff can only mean Good Things. So I'm excited about all that.

Me, too! Sharing the AiT Love with the world is definitely a blast.

SEACREST OUT!
