Dorian Wright sure is sliding us into next year as smoothly as possible: "Favorite Graphic Novel Of 2005: Rob Osborne's Sunset City was an incredible sophomore effort. It was deep and well illustrated and prompted more thought in me than any other comic I've read all year. This was the book to get this year.

"Favorite Publisher Of 2005: This year, AIT/Planet Lar put out more good and worthwhile work than any other publisher I follow. From the aforementioned Sunset City, to new volumes of True Story Swear to God, The Couriers and Colonia, collected editions of Demo and Scurvy Dogs, and outstanding graphic novels like Filler, Smoke and Guns and Full Moon Fever, almost every month had something worthwhile and right up my alley on the racks."

+++++

Matt Price, of the Daily Oklahoman/News 9 in Oklahoma City, has Demo coming in at #2 of the Year's Top Ten Graphic Novels: "Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan created an amazing 12-issue series in Demo, collected into one volume by AiT/Planet Lar. With an entirely new cast each issue, Wood explores coming-of-age stories with a twist, ably assisted by Cloonan, who alters her art style to fit each story."

Johnny Bacardi's Best of 2005 includes Scurvy Dogs ("Couldn't have a 'yar'-end review without listing this! Only a Philistine, or Rod Stewart perhaps, wouldn't think this was a hoot and a half.") and True Story Swear to God: This One Goes to Eleven ("Once again, Tom Beland entertains and enchants with his openhearted storytelling and graceful cartooning. Even though he's a 49er fan, I'll always come back for more.").

Johnny also has Electric Girl Volume Three ("Likeable and clever, smart and fun enough for the youngsters and the young at heart, too. You'd think Disney or Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network would be all over this.") and Smoke and Guns ("If I was as enthralled by the story, a blend of The Warriors, Streets of Fire, and 40's Noir tropes, as I was by Fabio Moon's excellent art then I'd be shouting its praises from the rooftops. Still, this was fun, wouldn't mind seeing a sequel someday, and you can chalk up another winner for AiT.") make Honorable Mentions.

The rest of his list ain't too shabby, either. Johnny B. sure has some good taste in comics.

MimiBooks™ continue to rock the year's-best lists, with this latest appearance on Dave Campbell's Few of My Favorite Things 2005: ""One of my favorite new finds this year was Colonia, by Jeff Nicholson, a charming historical/fantasy adventure which is worthy of a post all its own. Loved it."

H and Mag over at The Comic Treadmil continue their comic-related Twelve Days of Christmas with today's entry of Three Henchmen and starring Adam and Manny's Hench. Thanks, folks!

Rapmaster August De Blieck, Jr. takes a look at The Year in Review, and links to his AiT reviews of the past year, while apologizing for not getting to Smoke and Guns, although I know he loved it. Hey, Aug! What'll ya give me to not mount an Internet-wide petition demanding you review Kirsten and Fabio's latest? Send me some Dunkin Donuts coffee and I'll not mobilize the troops on you.

heh heh

Seriously, ol' Aug appends links to his reviews of the Demo scriptbook, Filler, Full Moon Fever, Sunset City, and Couriers 03, with a special recommendation for Full Moon Fever. I can't think of a better way to spend that holiday cash than at yer LCS on a few of these fine works.

Electric Girl Volume Three gets the nod from Marc Mason with his Ten Essential Comics of 2005 list in his "Should It Be A Movie?" column over on Kevin Smith's www.moviepoopshoot.com site: "The multi-award winning, library-friendly, and perfectly drawn Electric Girl finally returned this year after a long hiatus. While manga gets most of the (well-deserved) credit for its appeal to teenage girls, when it comes to an American-produced book, they don’t get better than this one. Virginia is a heroine with lots of pluck, and even though her adventures are filled with oddities, she is as human and real as it gets. If you have a niece or a daughter, start them on this right away."
