Chris Tamarri has a look at Full Moon Fever: "Really, it’s a bit disingenuous to try and review a book like this, because its appeal lies in the fact that it doesn’t try to inspire discussion. It eschews thought and analysis in favor of pure emotion, and, for better or worse, 'I was scared' doesn’t really constitute insightful commentary. Full Moon Fever is a bit of a palate cleanser, an antidote for an era where every book needs to be a comment on itself. It’s just one good story."

Augie De Blieck, Jr.: "Sunset City is a dramatic book, the kind of story the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would look kindly upon come Oscar time, if this were a movie. While it has a lighter touch at times, there is a dark thread weaved throughout the book, and the stories aren't all exactly uplifting. It's just good comics, and all for $10. C'mon, you pay that to go see a movie these days. "

I know I'm jumping the gun a bit, but Marc Mason himself sent word about the latest "Should It Be A Movie?" being put up, so I can't wait to let you know what he says about Sunset City: "This is Osborne’s second graphic novel, and it’s a strong leap forward for him as a creator. First, his choice of subject matter is so unusual, that you have no trouble getting sucked into the story. I can’t think of a single thing I’ve read that focused on older Americans like this. It feels fresh, even when the characters sometimes don’t. There’s also his willingness to explore an actual theme, rather than coast on the novelty of the project. Life as we age, and finding motivations to keep us pursuing dreams; these are important to our basic human condition, and while Osborne doesn’t take us as deep as he might be capable, there’s a basic understanding that he isn’t trying to replicate Kafka here, either. It feels satisfying... Artistically, this looks good. He looks more confident here, as he should, than when he first got going with his 1000 Steps To World Domination mini-comics a few years ago. In all, this is a very satisfying and enjoyable read, another nifty feather in AiT/Planet Lar’s ever-expanding cap."

Laura Gjovaag, on Sunset City: "I'd already seen a few reviews for this one before I got a copy to read, so I had a little idea, I thought, of what to expect. But I was wrong. This isn't a standard comic book by any stretch, and the ending is both unexpected and thought provoking. In fact, after reading the book I had to sit back and really try to decide if I could accept that as an ending or not. I'm still not sure, and I really doubt I'll ever be sure. What really gets me about this book is the contrasts. The deaths that Frank is witness to, living in a place where people go to die... deaths that are both natural and by violence. And yet, this is very much a story about life, somehow. I still don't quite know what to make of it. My best advice is that you go out and grab a copy to read for yourself."

Special Monday-morning thanks due to Jason Richards and Johanna Draper Carlson for publicly thanking me for just doing my job (Aw... shucks!), and to Alex Cox, for doing so privately.
