Don't blame me

OK, Sterling, Melrose, and Wintle have all checked in and are getting packages (Ken Lowery's on the team, too) and if they slow down, I'm sorry.

Laura Gjovaag turns her critical eye on Colonia (proving you really can sell a book by its cover) and on Available Light, Warren Ellis' polarizing hardcover collection of Handspring photos and short stories.

Tim O'Neil tackles Warren and Brandon's Switchblade Honey, which at first I thought was Tim's attempt to get Paramount to give Warren a shot at saving Star Trek. Then I realized it was Tim's attempt to get Warren to write another Switchblade Honey. :)

Sean T. Collins briefly returns to some in-depth linkblogging and notes that his day job is cutting into his blogging time. The serious people don't let that stop them, soldier! I can't remember the last time I even had a day job! Barely remember the free office supplies and the fact that everything important was somebody else's problem! I should be so lucky! Now down and give me twenty, dogface!

My love for Jon Carroll's work is no secret, and longtime readers of my stuff will be unsurprised to learn that my 2001 column for CBR, Loose Cannon, was pretty directly influenced by Carroll's folksy delivery. He has a great sarcastic quote in today's column which perfectly sums up how I feel about dorks on message boards who willfully, purposely misread something so they can further their agenda of hate: "Perhaps something offends you about this column. I'm sure it does. Remember: Your outrage trumps any defense I might make. It doesn't matter what I meant, it's what you think I meant."

AHAHAHAHA! I'm bookmarking that one.

I didn't mean to break the blogoverse

Since the thousands of dollars worth of AiT/Planet Lar books went out two short weeks ago, John Jakala suffers from "failing stamina," Tim O'Neil doesn't linkblog anymore, and Sean Collins, Bill Sherman, and Johnny B have all slowed down with the daily blogging. Only the heroic Laura Gjovaag continues apace unabated. She's like the Terminator of bloggers.

I'd send more comics out, but I don't want to tire out Mike Sterling, Marc Singer, Steven Wintle, and Kevin Melrose.

Real nice interview with Planet of the Capes artist Brandon McKinney on The Pulse, today. Catch up with what Brandon's doing now, and see some art from the book that's out April 28th.

Marc Mason has an excellent summation of the first five Demos so far, in his "Should It Be A Movie?" column on Kevin Smith's Movie Poop Shoot site. It's particularly gratifying to me that, after five or six months, people are digging on the Demo vibe, and that, you know, it's OK that we publish monthly books when they look like 32-page bulletproof original graphic novels.

Tim O'Neil didn't much like Abel, but unrelenting Steinbeckian angst in a period piece is a tough one to get one's head around. If I've seen it once, I've seen it forty times: someone comes up to Billy Harms at a con and says, "I recognize your quality work, but I can't say I liked it," or, the best one: "I read Abel, and I feel funny telling you I liked it." But at least Tim gave it a critical read, which is all I ever hope anyone ever does, with our stuff.

Laura Gjovaag had some real nice things to say about my marketing prowess, and I think I'll get Brandon McKinney to draw her a nice Aquaman piece when The Divine Mister B and I do our pre-launch party for Planet of the Capes later this month:
